| F-16 Dedication |
The History of Highland Home School Strata Academy opened its doors on September 8, 1856. During 1879, 1880, and 1881 trouble came upon Strata Academy. Sickness, typhoid fever and what was then called yellow chills caused three deaths. Founder J.M. Barnes never did agree that this sickness was contracted at Strata , but he decided to move the school. Several locations were taken under consideration, among them Montgomery, Verbena, and Snowdoun. At last a site six miles south of Strata and one mile over the line in Crenshaw County was chosen, and five hundred acres of land bought.
